Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar says protection of life and properties of people during national disasters is responsibility of the relevant government.
He was a addressing a news conference alongside Minister of State for Law Barrister Aqeel Malik in Islamabad on Saturday.
The Information Minister said Provincial Disaster Management Authorities were established under the 18th amendment to delegate the responsibility of tackling natural disasters to the provinces.
He said Rescue 1122 was a landmark initiative during tenure of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as Chief Minister Punjab and was carried on in the province by Shehbaz Sharif as Chief Minister.
The Minister however deplored that PTI despite being in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for last twelve years did not focus on disaster management and as a result, tragic incidents like the one along river Swat yesterday are occurring.
He said this was not just the death of tourists but also of PTI’s failed system of governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
