Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has proposed the creation of social media handlers of D-8 countries to highlight the narrative of economic development and countering islamophobia and terrorism.

Addressing a ceremony at a D-8 media forum in Baku today, he called for organizing joint trainings and workshops on crisis reporting, digital forensic and tackle the threats of disinformation practices.

The Minister further urged the establishment of a joint working group of media ministries and professionals to meet on regular intervals and shared their experiences.

He emphasized D-8 nations for building partnerships to combat online extremism and hate speech across the region.

Attaullah Tarar said government of Pakistan prioritized the transparent communication, digital representation and enhanced coordination among the media institutions.

Highlighting the policy of Pakistan with respect to strategic communication and crisis management, the Minister said Pakistan is strengthening media platforms and empowering public broadcasters and digital outlets with modern tools and training.

He said we are earnestly working on capacity building of media professionals to equip journalists with modern skills and imparting media literacy to the general public to identify the misinformation efficiently.

Attaullah Tarar also highlighted that global information landscape is undergoing unprecedented transformation and is being amplified by speed, scale and influence of modern technology.

The Minister termed digital media as the fastest mode of communication and stressed to bring together the digital natives along with the digital immigrants.

He said it is essential that both state and private media institutions work hand in hand to promote responsible journalism, ethical reporting and accurate story telling.
