The international community has condemned the escalation of violence in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

UN Chief Antonio Guterres has called on Sudan’s authorities for “an immediate cessation of hostilities” and discussed ways to de-escalate with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and African Union Commission Chair Moussa Faki.

In a tweet, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also called for a return to talks.

On the other hand, the Arab League, following a request by Egypt and Saudi Arabia, is scheduled to hold an urgent meeting today to discuss the situation in Sudan.

Earlier, the African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat also appealed to all parties for a cease-fire in Sudan.

Meanwhile, according to reports fifty six people have been killed and six hundred others injured in clashes between army and a paramilitary force in the capital Khartoum and other areas.
