Abdul Hanan Shahid, Pakistan’s 17-year-old forward, won the Emerging Player Award in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Chennai, India on Saturday.
Shahid was one of the standout players in the event who impressed everyone with his amazing skills. He had scored two goals in six matches for Pakistan, who finished fifth in the tournament.
“The tournament provided a platform for budding talents to shine, and Abdul Shahid from Pakistan rose to the occasion. His exceptional performance and potential garnered the Emerging Player Award, underscoring his promising future in the world of hockey,” the Asian Hockey Federation said in a press release.
Pakistan only managed to win two games in the event — both against China. They drew against Korea and Japan and lost against the finalists India and Malaysia.
It must be noted that India won the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2023 after beating Malaysia 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller in Chennai on Saturday.
