
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Federal Board of Revenue to further strengthen enforcement to increase revenues and curb tax evasion.
He was chairing a weekly review meeting on FBR’s affairs in Islamabad today.
The Prime Minister also directed to bring majority productive sectors under the scope of automated monitoring for increasing tax revenues.
He advised the Drug Regulatory Authority to complete the serialization of medicines, manufactured in the country at the earliest.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the economic team for recruiting experts on merit in the executive team of PRAL and for efforts to make it an effective institution.
He ordered to develop the Auto Tax System, Digital Invoicing System (IRIS) and other applications for taxpayers in Urdu and other local languages.
The meeting was briefed that multiple technology-based systems for monitoring production in different sectors are in place for increasing tax revenues, while several others will soon become functional.
Additionally, video analytics, unit counting, barcode scanning, stamping, serialization, and other methods are being used to monitor production.
It was said that monitoring of production at all sugar, cement, cigarette and fertilizer factories is being ensured, which has led to increase in revenue. Similarly, steps are being taken to monitor the production at the textile, leather, paper, automobile, beverage and other sectors, while likely to generate billions of rupees in additional tax collection.
The meeting was informed that amendments have been made to the law governing Alternative Dispute Resolution Committees to ensure transparency and restore confidence of tax payers.
It was told that the new executive team of Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited has become operational as well as digital invoicing system of PRAL has been fully activated.
It was briefed that the new data center of FBR, aligned with modern requirements, has been fully completed, while implementing an integrated system for GPS tracking of petroleum products.
The meeting was further apprised that digital cargo tracking system, particularly the e-bility system has been introduced to curb smuggling and track cargo in the country.
