
Under the auspices of the International Union of Writers, a dignified condolence reference and mushaira was held in memory of renowned poet Samina Syed as part of the “Chiragh-e-Sukhan” program. The event served as a graceful tribute to her literary contributions. She passed away on March 18, 2026.
The ceremony was presided over by Governing Body Supreme Council Member Rehana Usmani, while the chief guests included Chairman International Union of Writers Zubair Ahmed Ansari and Musarrat Kalanchvi. Rukhsana Akbar attended as the guest of honor, and the proceedings were elegantly conducted by Vice President Advocate Saadia Huma Sheikh.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Central President Samina Tahir Butt, Senior Vice President Fatima Sherwani, General Secretary Tahir Tabassum Durrani, President Punjab Zohaib Ramzan Bhatti, Vice President Punjab Sajjad Bhinder, President Women Wing Lahore Nabeela Akbar, General Secretary Lahore Hafiz Zubair Ahmed, and Organizer Lahore Hina Yasmeen, among others.
During the program, speakers shed light on the life, poetry, and literary contributions of Samina Syed, paying rich tribute to her personality and artistic excellence.
The late poet’s daughter, Shawal Syed, shared heartfelt memories and highlighted various aspects of her mother’s personality, leaving the audience deeply emotional.
Other notable literary figures who participated in the event included Naat poet Musarrat Jabeen, prose writer Itrat Batool, novelist and short story writer Kanwal Behzad, Sehr Naseem Sehr, Saima Mumtaz, poet Zarqa Fatima, Tariq Aziz, Shehbaz Akbar Ulfat, Dr. Faiza, and President Adab-e-Atfal Wing Pir Mahal Sitara Ameen Komal.
The event was not only a condolence gathering but also a memorable literary assembly, where the life and work of Samina Syed were honored with great admiration.
