Commissioner Sargodha Division Hafiz Shaukat Ali, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry and Deputy Commissioner Khushab Dr. Jahanzeb Hussain Laber, visited the Langar Wala point on the Jhelum River to review the flood situation, inspect precautionary measures, and examine the Flood Awareness Camp established at the site.
Assistant Commissioner Sahiwal Shamsuddin Khan, along with officers from the Irrigation Department, Highways Department, and other relevant departments, was also present during the visit.
The Commissioner received a detailed briefing on the river’s water flow, protective embankments, roads, bridges, and the precautionary arrangements made by the district administrations. Irrigation Department officials briefed him on the condition of flood protection embankments, the current water flow in the river, and the preventive measures in place, while Highways Department officials informed him about arrangements concerning roads, bridges, and communication links.
Officials stated that, according to the current assessment, there is no flood threat in the Jhelum River. However, all relevant departments remain on high alert and are continuously monitoring the situation.
Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali directed the authorities to ensure constant surveillance of the settlements located on both sides of the river, further strengthen protective measures, and keep all concerned departments fully prepared to respond promptly to any emergency situation.
He emphasized that the protection of the lives and property of the public is the Punjab Government’s top priority, adding that no negligence or complacency would be tolerated.
The Commissioner was also informed that the Langar Wala point lies on the boundary between Sargodha and Khushab districts, where both district administrations are jointly monitoring the flood situation to ensure timely action in the event of any potential emergency.
