A seminar was organized by the Literacy Department, Khushab, as part of an awareness campaign to highlight the importance of education and literacy. Addressing the gathering, District Education Officer Literacy Hassan Abbas said that the foundation of national development lies in education and literacy.
He said that no society could achieve prosperity unless its people learned to read and write. International Literacy Day 2026 was observed this year under the significant theme, “Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity.”
In connection with the occasion, the Literacy & Non-Formal Basic Education Department, Khushab, organized a week-long campaign from September 1 to 7, 2026, in which field staff, teachers, students and community members participated enthusiastically.
The seven-day campaign began on September 1 with an impressive art competition for children titled “My Vision: Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity.” Students from schools and non-formal education centres used colorful artwork to portray the close relationship between education and environmental protection.
On the second day, success stories of teachers, talented students and community leaders from across the district were identified and highlighted. Despite facing difficult circumstances, these individuals had achieved remarkable success in promoting literacy. Their tireless efforts were widely appreciated through local and social media platforms.
Hassan Abbas said that a major component of this year’s campaign focused on environmental protection. On the third day, tree plantation, cleanliness drives and practical activities on “Water-Saving Literacy” were organized at NFE centres and schools.
On the fourth day, community-level awareness sessions were held to educate people about how acquiring education could improve their quality of life while also helping them maintain a clean and healthy environment.
According to Hassan Abbas, the most engaging part of the campaign took place on the fifth day, when a large “Literate, Clean and Green Walk/Run” was organized in collaboration with the Suthra Punjab Authority and the Forest Department. Students, teachers, young people, government officials, NGO representatives and media personnel participated in large numbers, conveying the message that an educated and greener Punjab is the true measure of our success.
On the sixth day, a dignified district-level seminar was organized with the cooperation of the District Education Authority, Khushab. Educationists and officials highlighted the importance of literacy in achieving environmental sustainability and economic prosperity.
On the seventh and final day, all activities and achievements of the campaign were shared with the public through media engagement, including a press conference and radio and television programmes. A comprehensive performance report of the campaign was also submitted to the competent authority.
