Deputy Commissioner Khushab, Dr. Jahanzeb Hussain Labar, chaired an important meeting of the District Peace Committee to review arrangements for maintaining law and order during Muharram-ul-Haram. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Ghazala Kanwal, Assistant Commissioner Khushab Chaudhry Ziaullah, Managing Director WASA Imran Ali Bajwa, Deputy Director Local Government Israr Ahmed Qureshi, DSP Sadar Zulfiqar Ahmed, officers from the CTD, Special Branch and Security Branch, members of the Peace Committee from all four tehsils of the district, religious scholars belonging to various schools of thought, and representatives of minority communities.
Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner stated that no changes had been made to the routes of Muharram processions and that only licensed committee members and mourners would be permitted to participate in processions and religious gatherings. He emphasized that religious leaders of all schools of thought have always played a vital role in maintaining peace and harmony and urged them to continue promoting brotherhood, tolerance, and unity during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Dr. Jahanzeb Hussain Labar advised religious scholars and mosque administrations to refrain from delivering speeches or statements that could hurt the sentiments of followers of other sects. He noted that hate speech and provocative remarks create unrest and negatively affect law and order in society.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to citizens to act as responsible and patriotic individuals by supporting the government and district administration in maintaining peace. He urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities, discourage excessive mobile phone use among younger children, and prevent older children from uploading inappropriate content or engaging in unlawful activities on social media platforms. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt peace during Muharram. Citizens were also encouraged to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the district administration immediately.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the relevant departments to ensure the prompt repair of damaged roads on procession routes, restoration of streetlights, uninterrupted electricity supply, removal of hanging and exposed electric wires, relocation of transformer trolleys obstructing routes, provision of clean water, proper drainage facilities, and effective sanitation arrangements.
On the occasion, DSP Sadar Zulfiqar Ahmed briefed the participants on the security measures being implemented for Muharram-ul-Haram. He stated that comprehensive security arrangements were being finalized and responsibilities had already been assigned to police officers and personnel. He remarked that religious scholars are ambassadors of peace and have always played an exemplary role in maintaining harmony within society. He further stated that those attempting to disturb peace would be dealt with strictly and that no leniency would be shown to individuals challenging the writ of the state.
The religious scholars and members of the Peace Committee appreciated the efforts of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jahanzeb Hussain Labar and assured the district administration of their full cooperation in maintaining peace during Muharram-ul-Haram. The meeting concluded with special prayers for the security, prosperity, peace, and stability of Pakistan.
