Brazil produced a dominant display to defeat Scotland 3-0 in their final Group C match, leaving Scotland’s hopes of reaching the World Cup knockout stage in serious doubt.
Vinicius Jr was the star of the show, scoring twice in the first half as Brazil silenced the passionate Scotland supporters who had created a lively atmosphere throughout the tournament.
The Brazilian forward opened the scoring after just seven minutes following a defensive mistake by Scotland. He added a second goal before halftime, putting Brazil firmly in control of the contest.
Scotland struggled to create clear chances and failed to seriously test Brazil goalkeeper Alisson until late in the match. Despite showing determination, the Scots were unable to match Brazil’s attacking quality.
Brazil sealed the victory in the second half when Matheus Cunha scored the third goal after another well-worked move by the South American giants.
The defeat leaves Scotland anxiously waiting to see if they can qualify for the last 32 as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams. Results from other groups will now determine their fate.
Brazil, meanwhile, finished top of Group C and advanced to the knockout stage with confidence after an impressive group-stage campaign.
