A special session titled “The Journey of Building Society” was held as part of Radio Pakistan Sargodha’s popular informative programme “Shaheen Sargodha.” Social workers Ashar Adeel and Abida Nazar participated in the programme, which was hosted by Sabtain Baloch.
The programme featured a detailed discussion on the guests’ early lives, the beginning of their social services, their practical struggles, and their journey toward improving society. Both guests shared important and memorable experiences from their lives and explained how various personal experiences and social circumstances inspired them to contribute to welfare and social service.
During the discussion, it was emphasised that social service is not merely the responsibility of an individual; rather, it is a collective responsibility of citizens, institutions and organisations. Dedicating time, skills, resources and energy beyond personal interests to improve the lives of disadvantaged, vulnerable and underprivileged people is the true essence of social service.
Social worker Ashar Adeel highlighted various areas of his social activities, including providing educational facilities, books and learning resources to deserving children, supporting the education of out-of-school children, and addressing issues related to poverty.
Speaking about initiatives in the health sector, he mentioned free medical camps, assistance for cancer and thalassemia patients and people suffering from other diseases. He also identified public awareness regarding health, cleanliness and hygiene as important priorities.
The protection of women and children was also discussed in detail. Emphasis was placed on assistance in tracing missing children, protecting children from exploitation, violence and abuse, and creating greater awareness among parents and society about child safety.
The role of social workers in protecting human rights was also highlighted. It was noted that social workers raise their voices for the basic rights of vulnerable and deprived sections of society and play an important role in providing them with guidance, access to legal and government institutions, and necessary assistance.
Interfaith harmony and social cohesion were also important topics of the programme. The guests stressed that mutual respect, tolerance, acceptance and positive interaction among different communities are essential for sustainable peace and national unity in a diverse country like Pakistan.
The programme also highlighted that social workers not only identify social problems but also create public awareness, convey the concerns of needy people to relevant institutions and lay the foundation for positive social change through practical initiatives.
The participants agreed that a better society cannot be created through the efforts of government institutions alone; rather, it requires the responsible participation of every citizen. If every individual helps those in need according to their capacity, promotes positive attitudes and contributes to resolving social problems, significant and lasting positive change can be achieved.
The initiative of Radio Pakistan Sargodha’s informative programme “Shaheen Sargodha” to make important issues such as social service and social responsibility part of public discourse was also appreciated. It was emphasised that such programmes not only create awareness about social issues but also encourage people to actively contribute to the betterment of society.
