Asim Khan has made history by securing Pakistan’s first-ever MMA medal at the Asian Games.
Competing in the Modern MMA – 60kg category, Khan defeated Cambodia’s Sopanha Pheng in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals, guaranteeing Pakistan a historic first medal in mixed martial arts at the Games.
The Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PMMAF) — including its President, General Secretary, Executive Board, office bearers, officials and members — extended congratulations to Khan and his official coach, Dilawar Khan Sannan, on the achievement.
PMMAF President Zulfiqar Ali congratulated Khan, calling the win a landmark moment for Pakistani MMA. He noted that Khan, already an Asian silver medalist and World bronze medalist, had proven his ability on the international stage, and expressed confidence that the athlete would build on this success and push for gold in the upcoming rounds.
The federation said the medal is now guaranteed, but the campaign is not over, with Khan set to compete in the semifinals and final.
PMMAF also thanked the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), and other supporting institutions, officials, coaches and athletes for their continued backing of Pakistani MMA, adding that the federation remains committed to pursuing further international honours for the country.
The event is taking place at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
