In a recent development, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against several individuals for their unauthorized involvement in the elections of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF), which were held on February 1, 2025, at Olympic House. The elections, which were not recognized by the PSB due to the suspension of the PWLF, have raised concerns regarding misconduct and violations of government directives.
Ms. Humaira Latif (UVAS)
The PSB has taken note of Ms. Humaira Latif, Assistant Director of Sports at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, who participated in the elections despite the clear instructions from the PSB stating that these elections were invalid. Her participation is considered a direct violation of government instructions and has led to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against her.
Mr. Qaisar Iftikhar (LESCO) and Mr. Muhammad Akbar (FESCO)
Similarly, Mr. Qaisar Iftikhar from LESCO and Mr. Muhammad Akbar from FESCO also took part in the controversial elections, despite the PSB’s prior notification regarding the suspension of the PWLF. The PSB has demanded that immediate disciplinary action be taken against both individuals for their unauthorized participation.
Mr. Aqeel Javed Butt (Punjab Police)
In another case, Mr. Aqeel Javed Butt from the Punjab Police has also come under scrutiny for engaging in the PWLF elections despite clear instructions to the contrary. As with others, his involvement has resulted in the initiation of disciplinary proceedings as per the applicable service and disciplinary rules.
Mr. Abdul Sattar Rahi (UCP)
Mr. Abdul Sattar Rahi, a representative from the University of Central Punjab (UCP), Lahore, is the latest individual to be named in the proceedings. His participation in the unrecognized elections of the suspended federation has been deemed a violation of government policies, prompting the PSB to call for immediate action against him.
Mr. Nafees Ahmad and Mr. Muhammad Rashid (Sindh Police)
Lastly, Mr. Nafees Ahmad and Mr. Muhammad Rashid, both of the Sindh Police, are also facing disciplinary action for their involvement in the elections despite the PSB’s explicit instructions that the elections were not valid due to the suspension of the PWLF.
In each of these cases, the PSB has attached copies of the official notification dated October 31, 2024, regarding the suspension of the PWLF and a subsequent letter dated January 24, 2025, about the elections for reference. The PSB has emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of government decisions in sports governance, urging the concerned organizations to take swift action in accordance with their disciplinary rules.
The Pakistan Sports Board’s initiative aims to safeguard the transparency and credibility of sports governance in the country.
