
Senior politician and former Governor of Punjab, Mian Muhammad Azhar, has passed away while undergoing treatment at a local hospital. He was a prominent figure in Pakistani politics, known for his decades-long service and strategic political insight.
Mian Azhar began his political journey as a grassroots worker and rose through the ranks to hold several key positions. He served as the Mayor of Lahore from 1987 to 1991 and later as the Governor of Punjab from 1990 to 1992. He was also elected as a member of the National Assembly from Constituency NA-129, Lahore.
Initially affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Mian Azhar later joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) during the political exile of Nawaz Sharif, playing a vital role in the reorganization of the party at that time.
Throughout his career, Mian Azhar was widely regarded as a shrewd and pragmatic political figure who maintained a significant influence in national and provincial politics.
Condolences poured in from political leaders across party lines, recognizing his contributions to Pakistan’s political landscape. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
