Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq has declared to vigorously monitor implementation of decisions with regards to checking power pilferage, hoarding and smuggling.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Friday, he said the action against smuggling, hoarding and power theft will be taken forward without any fear and favour. He said those involved in these illegal practices will be taken to the court of law and due process will be followed.
The Prime Minister also announced the revival of price control committees; saying the efforts in this regard will be led by the Minister for Planning in coordination with the provincial authorities. He emphasized that the implementation of this system will remain visible until the caretaker government is in place.
When asked about involvement of Afghan refugees in smuggling and hoarding, the Prime Minister said a policy has been prepared regarding the Afghan refugees and this will soon be visible. He said the aliens will be deported as they have no right to reside in Pakistan. We have held detailed discussions regarding Pak-Afghan transit trade, stressing there will be zero tolerance on smuggled goods. He assured that those residing in the border areas will be provided with positive economic opportunities to earn their livelihoods in a dignified manner.
The Prime Minister emphatically stated that the crackdown against the illegal industry of currency will be consistent and the law will take its course.
The Prime Minister said we are committed to break the nexus between the smugglers and the terrorist outfits.
He said countering terrorism and extremism are amongst our foremost priorities and civilian and military authorities are working in a synchronized manner to deal with this menace.
To a question, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said the caretaker government firmly believes in freedom of expression. He rejected the impression that the voice of media is being stifled.
