Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad says the global financial and economic governance must be restructured on equitable, inclusive, and democratic foundations.
He was speaking at the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate on “The United Nations Organization: Looking into the Future”.
The Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN reiterated the urgent need to reform international financial institutions, to ensure fair access to concessional financing, meaningful debt relief, and a more balanced allocation of Special Drawing Rights.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said UN Security Council must also be reformed through an inclusive, democratic, and consensus-based process that expands elected representation, rejects new permanent privilege, and strengthens accountability to the wider membership.
