Senate passes resolution reaffirming support for IIOJK

The Senate today unanimously passed a resolution reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support for the just struggle of the Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination.

The resolution was moved by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam.

The resolution paid glowing tributes to the valour, resolve and sacrifices of the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The house emphasized that unilateral and illegal change of the disputed and constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be a substitute for the exercise of the right of self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Strongly denouncing blatant human rights violations in IIOJK, the resolution demanded that India improves human rights situation in the occupied territory, release all political prisoners and cancel all draconian laws.

The resolution underscored that resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per the UN Security Council resolutions and aspirations of Kashmiri people is imperative for durable peace in South Asia.  It demanded that India implements the Security Council resolutions so that the Kashmiri people could determine their future through a fair and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the UN.

The Senate was informed today that Drug Regulatory Authority has undertaken measures to ensure rapid legal action against manufacturers and distributors of spurious and substandard medicines.

Minister of State for National Health Services Mukhtar Ahmad Malik told the house during question hour that a National Task Force has been established to detect substandard and spurious medicines and to ensure compliance with approved manufacturing quality standards. He mentioned that drug inspectors regularly monitor the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines.

Mukhtar Ahmad Malik told the house that Pakistan is working with China to enhance its agri yield, expressing the confidence that the results in this regard will be visible in the next two to three years.

Responding to the points of leader of Opposition in the house today, Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sana Ullah Khan said the past record of PTI does not reflect history of peaceful protests. He alluded to the attacks on state institutions on 9th May. He said those who break law will have to face accountability.

The House will now meet again on Monday at four p.m.
