31 martyred, 169 injured in Islamabad blast

Thirty-one people were martyred and 169 others injured in a blast in Islamabad today.

According to a statement of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad on X, emergency has been imposed in PIMS, Polyclinic and CDA Hospitals.

The Assistant Commissioners have been deployed to supervise the treatment of the injured in various hospitals.

The blast site has been completely sealed.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have condemned the blast.

In their separate statements, they expressed grief and sorrow over the loss human lives

The President and the Prime Minister have also directed to provide the best medical facilities to the injured.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and directed to carry out immediate and complete investigations into the incident.

He said those responsible for the explosion must be identified and brought to justice.

He added that no one will be allowed to spread chaos and unrest in the country.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has condemned the blast at an Imambargah in Tarlai, Islamabad.

In a statement, he expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives in the incident and conveyed heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives.

The Minister termed the targeting of worshippers as a highly cowardly, inhumane and reprehensible act.

He said no condemnation is enough for such a heinous crime.

Attaullah Tarar said those responsible for the incident will be brought to justice and awarded exemplary punishment. He emphasized that no one will be allowed to disturb law and order in the country or harm sectarian harmony. He said the state remains fully committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens as well as ensuring the security of mosques and Imambargahs.

He added that operations against miscreants will continue under a zero-tolerance policy.
