New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to broker peace between Iran and the United States and help resolve the conflict in the Middle East.

He was addressing the Pakistani community in New Zealand on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations.

The New Zealand Prime Minister said the Middle East conflict had caused immense suffering to people at home and around the world.

Christopher Luxon recalled that he had spoken with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif three months ago to thank him for his efforts to promote peace in the region.

Talking about Pakistan-New Zealand relations, he said both countries have strong ties based on their shared Commonwealth history and cooperation through international and regional forums, including the United Nations, World Trade Organization and ASEAN Regional Forum.

The New Zealand Prime Minister also praised the Pakistani community in New Zealand for its valuable contribution to the country’s economic, social and cultural development.

He said around 8,100 Pakistanis living across New Zealand have made the country a much better place through their hard work and achievements.

Christopher Luxon said New Zealand is economically, socially and culturally better off because of the Pakistani community. He added that the Pakistani community’s immigrant story is a source of inspiration.

The New Zealand Prime Minister urged members of the Pakistani community to feel proud of their contribution to the country.
