In Sri Lanka, the ruling party has blocked no-confidence motion in the Parliament against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa by majority of 51 votes.

The motion moved by Member of Parliament, M.A Sumanthiran to suspend the Standing Orders to debate on the opposition’s motion, accused President Rajapaksa of being responsible for the economic crisis and mismanaging the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his reaction, said that moving a motion to suspend Standing Orders is a poor Parliamentary strategy.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office today, said the he was informed that opposition members want to suspend Standing Orders and debate the Motion of Displeasure against the President.
