United Nations has said it is not leaving Sudan but has temporarily relocated hundreds of staff members inside and outside of the country amid continuing fighting between rival military factions.

Addressing the 15-member Council during a general debate on the importance of multilateralism, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres affirmed continued dedication of whole UN system, to stand with Sudanese people for a peaceful, secure future and a return to democratic transition.

He called on all parties of Sudan to immediately cease hostilities, end violence, restore order and return to path of democratic transition.

He urged to allow all civilians to evacuate from areas affected by fighting.

The UN Secretary General condemned indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas and facilities.

He said he is in “constant contact” with military leaders in Khartoum and has called on them to return to the negotiating table.

In its latest update, the UN humanitarian coordination office reported that after nine days of fighting at least 427 people have been killed and more than 3,700 injured.
