The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab has foiled a major terror plot, arresting four  suspected terrorists linked with a banned militant outfit from Rawalpindi.

According to a spokesman, the CTD teams conducted 71 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in different districts, took 71 suspected persons into custody for interrogation, and formally arrested four alleged terrorists.

He said suspects Ajmal, Feroz, Hamid Bashir and Syed Awais belong to the Tehreek-eTaliban Pakistan (TTP), Daesh and the Baloch Liberation Army.

The key arrests were made during an IBO in Rawalpindi, the spokesman said and added that explosives 2,430 grams, 17 detonators, 29 feet safety fuse, and Rs20,090 were recovered from the possession of the terrorists.

The spokesman further said the terrorists had planned sabotage acts across the province and wanted to target important installations and other religious places.

Cases have been against the arrested alleged terrorists who were shifted to an unknown location, he added.

According to the CTD, as many 395 combing operations were also conducted during this week with the help of local police and security agencies, 20,940 people were checked, 108 suspects were arrested, 96 FIRs were registered, and 37 recoveries were made.
