Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has emphasized that Pakistan’s progress and economic stability are unattainable without the active participation of women.

Addressing a special ceremony in connection with the International Women’s Day in Islamabad today, he highlighted that over half of Pakistan’s population comprises women, and until they are provided equal opportunities, the country cannot move forward on the path of development.

The Minister acknowledged the immeasurable contributions of women in Pakistan and around the world. He said gender equality is not just a moral imperative but an economic necessity as closing the gender gap in labor force participation significantly boosts GDP.

Ahsan Iqbal reaffirmed government’s commitment to gender inclusion and a Gender Unit has been established in the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives. The GU plays a key role in integrating gender inclusivity across all sectors, with a particular focus on education, health, skills development, and workforce participation. He noted that the GU actively monitors policymaking to eliminate discrimination against women and to create an enabling environment for their leadership roles.

The Minister further emphasized the need to equip women with modern skills, integrate them into the digital economy, and support them in entrepreneurial ventures to unlock Pakistan’s economic apotential.
