Pakistan and Maldives have agreed to enhance their high-level dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation especially in economy, trade, culture and tourism sectors.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and President of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on the sidelines of COP 28 in Dubai on Saturday.
The two leaders resolved to further strengthen Pakistan-Maldives bilateral relations and capitalize on the immense goodwill between the two peoples.
They agreed to advance mutual cooperation in combating climate change and discussed sharing of expertise in plantation of mangroves and other climate resistance floras.
They emphasized the need for progress on result-oriented outcomes in the domain of climate action and justice.
Anwaar ul Haq Kakar reiterated Pakistan’s desire to promote peace and development in South Asia through enhanced regional cooperation.
He felicitated Dr Mohamed Muizzu on assuming office of the President of Maldives.
The President of Maldives thanked the Prime Minister for conveying warm sentiments on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar met Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on the sidelines of COP 28 conference in Dubai on Saturday.
The two leaders reviewed the bilateral relationship and agreed to enhance bilateral political exchanges to foster understanding between the two peoples.
Committing to strengthen cooperation in diverse fields including economy, culture and tourism, they agreed to revive the Joint Ministerial Commission.
Discussing the ongoing Israeli violence against Palestinian people, they called on the international community to take notice of the situation, press on Israel to stop the brutal use of force, ensure ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian assistance and resolve the Palestine issue in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
