
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has categorically stated that neither there is any shortage of sugar in the country nor it will be in the future.
He was presiding over a meeting of the special committee in Islamabad on Wednesday, constituted by the Prime Minister to review available stock and prices of sugar in the country. The meeting also reviewed the reservations of sugar mills owners.
Ishaq Dar said the Ex-Mill Rate of sugar for one month will be 159 rupees per kilogram while Retail Price will be 164 rupees per kilogram.
The Deputy Prime Minister vowed to take stern action against those who would create artificial shortage of sugar.
He appreciated the Sugar Mills owners and other traders associations for ensuring sugar supply to consumers at 130 rupees per kilogram at 274 “Sasta Ramazan Bazaars”.
Ishaq Dar also announced to constitute a sub-committee headed by Minister for Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain with representation of all stakeholders concerned including sugar mills owners to evolve a mechanism for ensuring supply and controlling prices of sugar in the country. The sub-committee will submit it report within one month.
He said the next crushing season of sugarcane will start in November this year and strict action will be taken for violation.
