Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar says government will continue to take practical steps for freedom of press and financial security of journalists.

He was talking to a delegation of journalists from Pakistan Federal Union of journalists, Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalist and Islamabad Press Club in Islamabad today.

The meeting discussed the establishment of Journalists Protection Commission and other issues including illegal dismissals of journalists.

The Minister assured the delegation that protection of rights of journalists will be ensured as process of establishing the Journalists Protection Commission is in its final stage.

Expressing concern over the dismissal of journalists by media houses, he said this matter will be raised with media owners.

The Minister said the dismissals of employees despite the fact that government has cleared a historic sum of dues to media houses, is concerning.

He said health insurance system for journalists will be expanded and made more effective.

The Minister assured the delegation that Charter of Demand regarding the attack on National Press Club will be get implemented. He added solving problems of journalist community is one of government’s top most priorities.

The delegation thanked the Minister for his assurance to resolve the problems faced by journalists.
