Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the government is fully focused on improving the electricity transmission system.

Chairing a meeting of a Working Group on Power Sector in Islamabad today, he said efforts are being made to ensure that industries receive electricity at regionally competitive rates.

The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts and hard work of the Energy Committee, formed under the leadership of Shehzad Saleem, for consultations with the private sector.

During the meeting, recommendations regarding reforms in the energy sector for economic development were presented.

The Prime Minister directed the Power Division to present recommendations, in consultation with stakeholders, to bring electricity wheeling charges to an appropriate level.

He highlighted that a National Program for Economic Development will be formulated, once the recommendations of various sectoral working groups are finalized.

In addition, the meeting discussed proposals related to tariff structures, challenges in electricity transmission, appropriate pricing, and other energy-related matters.

Recommendations were also made to enhance the reliability of the electricity transmission and voltage system.
