Pakistan and China have agreed to strengthen rapid response mechanisms against terrorism and crime and to expand scope of police training exchange programmes.

This understanding was reached at a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Xiaohong in Beijing today.

They held in-depth discussions on counter-terrorism cooperation, police training exchange programmes and expanding collaboration in mutual areas of interest.

Both sides agreed that the Joint Working Group will meet every three months, while the Interior Ministers will meet once a year.

The Chinese Interior Minister expressed satisfaction with the security measures taken for Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan. He praised Pakistan’s efforts in counter-terrorism and internal security and said that China highly values Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Matters pertaining to Islamabad and Beijing sister-city cooperation were also discussed. Both Ministers agreed on a joint strategy to enhance the training and professional capacity of police and security personnel.

Mohsin Naqvi emphasised ensuring exchange of experience and information between the security institutions of both countries through training. He also briefed the Chinese side on the security arrangements undertaken for Chinese nationals and projects. He informed that security of Chinese nationals and joint development projects is a top priority. He added that Pakistan has taken strong measures at all levels for the security of Chinese nationals and is establishing a special protection unit in Islamabad.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed Chinese assistance in combating cybercrimes and said Pakistan wants to benefit from the expertise of Chinese institutions to strengthen the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency.

He said AI-based Chinese technologies can greatly help Pakistan in counter-terrorism and security challenges.

Mohsin Naqvi invited the Chinese Interior Minister to visit Pakistan.

The Chinese Interior Minister invited Mohsin Naqvi to participate in the Global Security Cooperation Forum scheduled in China in September this year.
