President Dr Arif Alvi has called upon international community to put pressure on India to immediately release the Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Muhammad Yasin Malik and stop gross human rights violations in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, the President strongly condemned the conviction of Muhammad Yasin Malik by an Indian court on false and politically motivated charges.

Terming the sentence as unfair and against the fundamental principles of justice, he regretted that the Indian judiciary has always played second fiddle to the Indian political leadership by safeguarding the interests of extremist Hindutva ideology and denying justice to Muslims.

Dr Arif Alvi said Yasin Malik is struggling for the rights of Kashmiri Muslims and the legitimate freedom struggle of Kashmiri Muslims cannot be equated with terrorism.
