
Heavy monsoon downpours have lashed different parts of the country including Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
A spokesperson of Met Office told our correspondent that the highest rainfall of 193 mm was recorded in Islamabad, 179 mm in Rawalpindi, 167 in Mandi Bahuddin, 142 mm in Chakwal and 81 mm in Jhelum.
The Spokesperson said intermittent rain is expected to continue over the next twelve to twenty hours, although its intensity is likely to decrease.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority has forecast heavy rainfall in various areas of the country over the next twenty four hours, posing a risk of urban flooding and potential overflow in streams.
Various districts in Punjab including Lahore, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Hafizabad are likely to experience thunderstorms and heavy rain in the next twelve hours.
In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, heavy downpours may cause a rise in water levels in Nullah Lai, posing a risk of flooding in low-lying areas nearby.
Residents living near Nullah Lai and in vulnerable low-lying areas have been advised to prepare for immediate evacuation in case of warning sirens and to cooperate with the relevant authorities.
NDMA and concerned departments are ensuring timely preventive measures.
The NDMA has directed all relevant institutions to ensure proactive preparedness to handle any potential emergency situation.
People have been advised to avoid crossing streams, flooded roads, and bridges during high water levels.
On the other hand, Pakistan Army is engaged in rescue and relief operations in various areas affected by flooding caused by recent heavy rains.
Army personnel have reached flood-hit areas of Dhok Bhedar and Darapur in Jhelum District to evacuate flood affected people to safer locations and provide them with food and medical assistance.
The troops also provided other essential services to the flood victims.
Pakistan Army rescued a family stranded in the flood on Chakri Road using a helicopter.
