Moderate earthquake tremors were felt across several parts of the country on Wednesday, including the federal capital Islamabad, various cities of Punjab, and multiple districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing brief panic among residents.
According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake measured 4.3 on the Richter scale with a depth of 12 kilometers. The epicenter of the quake was located in a mountainous region near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
In Punjab, tremors were reported in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chiniot, Chakwal, Mianwali and surrounding areas, prompting people to evacuate buildings as a safety precaution.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the quake was felt in Peshawar, Mardan, Mohmand, Shabqadar, Lakki Marwat, Nowshera, Swabi, Lower Dir, and Malakand. Despite the widespread impact, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Authorities confirmed that no damage had been caused by the quake. Emergency response teams remain on standby as a precautionary measure.
Seismologists and disaster management officials have urged the public to stay alert and follow safety guidelines, highlighting Pakistan’s vulnerability to seismic activity due to its location along a major tectonic fault line.
